Sammy
Any ideas why my Light Sussex isn't perching at night? All the rest are but she seems to be quite content to sit in the corner. Healthwise she's fine, laying every day without fail. She's not relucant to go into the house and there's no lice or mites. She's my top hen so I can't see it being the other girls, as they are normally all harmonious, if anything she picks on them! Do your girls do this? Am I worrying unnecessarily and should I just leave her where she's happy?
Jools
Maybe she just hasn't worked it out yet? You could try teaching her by putting on the perch at night to see if she gets the hang of it.
Sammy
She's been perching ever since we got her but just the last few days decided she'd rather go on the floor in the corner. I just hope the rest don't poop on her! I will start picking her up and perching her but just wondered why she would do this all over a sudden? Maybe she just wants her own space? It could be she is feeling a bit chilly mine all perch in the summer but most sleep on the floor in the winter.
JanTheDiver
I have six hens and at least two of them don't perch, they sleep in the nest instead
Jools
Some of mine take it into their heads to sleep on the floor occasionally. I wouldn't worry too much about it if she's fine in every other way.
