SleepyFairy
Hi everyone, I posted something a few days ago about my chook's bum but haven't really had much response. Can you pls help?!? My gingernut has lost quite a few feathers around her bottom and there's a naked bit that seems to be growing slowly by the day! Poor lil chook. She's still laying fine and seems ok but I can't help wondering if there's anything I should do? Pls could you advise? Many many thanks Jules x
Ain't Nobody Here
I've just popped this into the Clinic for you . Have you spotted any of your other girls pecking at her behind? They could be plucking the feathers out. I take it there are no lice/mites visible?
SleepyFairy
I didn't notice any mites although don't know what I'm looking for really. Would they be around the same area? I cleaned the eglu out yesterday and didnt notice any either...
peepie
My gingernut is in a similar state but also has a big bald patch on her back. I have louse powdered her, (Couldn't find any lice though) Sprayed her with anti peck spray, put bumper bits on them, red mite treated the eglu and I have added treats to try and distract them. Whoever it is is still at it! She seems quite happy and it doens't seem to be breaking the skin so I've decided that I can't really do anything other than leave her to it. I don't think she's being bullied so really there's not much I can do. Sorry not to be of any help but I can at least sympathise!! xx

The Dogmother
Details of lice and mites here (top of this forum section) She could just be moulting, but my money is on either lice or a feather plucker. Have a good browse through the forum as ther are plenty of posts on this subject.
Jools
I agree and would put money on feather pecking. I'd suggest spraying her bare bum with purple spray because no doubt it's quite red and will be tempting the others to peck at her some more.
