We got our chooks in the spring, everything is going well, they seem so happy. i was out with them earlier and noticed tiggywinkle has a little bald patch under her ear/ top of her neck.... its about the size of a 10p. no bald patches anywhere else the other chooks are fine.... ive looked for mites etc but am still a little concerned?!

Probably the start of moulting But someone infinately more experienced than me will be along soon

I would say maybe the start of a moult or a "mini" moult. If I remember rightly one of my girls didn't fully moult the 1st year but did the second.

 

Maybe give the hen the once over for lice just incase but I wouldn't worry too much.

I'd watch out for any discharge from the ear as well in case it was caused by scratching.
