Early Bird
I just saw this thread by chance and had to respond as this kind of thing incenses me. It's bad enough when they try it on with able bodied (although still somewhat vulnerable) women who are most likely alone or with young children but it's ten times worse doing it to a pensioner. I agree you should call the police on this company and I agree thoroughly that the aim should be a certain degree higher than the shin if a kick is in order. I love the writing of GO AWAY across the form and shall certainly remember that one although my usual response is to say that my OH handles everything so they will need to come back and speak to him (they never do) and also (my next door neighbor gave me this tip). Don't actually answer the door but look out of an upstairs window. Easy for us as we live in a town house, I just open the living room window which is above the front door and ask who it is. If they're legit then I go down and open the door, accompanied by my ferocious collie (she's as harmless as they come but they don't know that ) If it's someone I don't wish to deal with I just say "no thanks" and close the window. I hope Debs that you have had some kind of closure on this by now and that you are well over the shock.
Reikiranf
What an awful experience for you And great advice from this forum as always, I'm giggling now at loads of us dying to use the "Go away" and never getting the chance now Whenever people knock at my door and give me the "we're just talking to homeowners in the area" line, I tell them that we rent the house and they always apologise for disturbing me and go, I'm pretty sure we rent the house We pay our rent to the bank but for some reason they call it a mortgage
