Door to door Gas and Electricity Salespersons

Recommended Posts

Trading Standards has a good article on their website about all this.

The long and short of it, though, is that there was nothing illegal with the man calling at the door, but at the point he was asked to leave and failed to comply, he was committing trespass. That's all you need to ring the police, and these days with mobile phones so prevalent, perhaps that's the best tactic.

I would have been tempted to kick him in the shin myself........

I have slightly higher ideals than that, if I'm honest

About a foot and a half higher, to be precise

Should I feel embarrassed for thinking the same

I hope that everything works out tomorrow Debs.xxxx

Oh Debsiewebsie - just seen this. If I'm on my own I tend not to answer the door after dark - and sometimes I forget to use the chain when I do in daylight hours. That was very frightening.

Several years ago when my brother lived in Amesbury he had a caller that wouldn't go away for the same thing. Then my brother had a letter from his energy supplier saying that they were sorry that he wasn't happy with them and moving to this other company. Turned out that the guy forged my brother's signature (basically made the forms up and so the signature was nothing like) because he was frustrated that my brother wouldn't comply. So all was changed back and a big complaint made - I think his supplier also complained. I gather the bloke was "reprimanded" and we know nothing more. Probably at that time they were told to do the bully tactics, but the fraudulent sig was only worthy of a "reprimand".

What was this guy thinking? It's not like it wouldn't all come out in the wash at some point in the future is it?

That's appalling  I know salespeople sometimes have ridiculous targets to meet and can be rather underpressure, but that is going far too far.

I have a sticker on the front door which says no door to door sales, so it's not surprise I hope to anyone daft enough to ring the bell when I just say, 'Sorry, I never deal with door to door sales' and shut the door.

I had a Southern Electric man come round the other day. I said I wasn't interested as I had just changed my supplier. He asked who to and I told him British Gas. His reply was 'Are you really that stupid don't you know they are the most expensive'. I gave him a piece of my mind told him I had researched the prices and BG did actually offer the best deal and how dare he sugest I was stupid. I then shut the door on him. I was fuming.

Well todays update is that I have no update!! No-one contacted OH today.

I don't know why I should have expected good customer service

How surprising

What a shocking episode, how dare he try to bully you

I once had a door caller trying to make me switch, I asked him to leave but he started filling in paperwork, I let him finish as he was not listening to me, he handed me the clipboard to sign the paperwork and I wrote 'GO AWAY' across the form in big letters and handed it back

He left

Space Chick - Now report it to the Police/Trading Standards These people should not be allowed to get away with behaviour like this. The company who employed him were honour bound to respond to you today if they cared at all about the ethics of their sales technique. As they obviously don't - go for the jugular.

Or set The Major on them.

(Not sure which is worse)

I hate when you ask for a quote for double glazing and they do the old 'I'll ring my boss for a reduction' routine. When we had the conservatory put on I told them that we were seeing about five companies over the half term and that we would not be ordering anything on the day. I also told them that any of the ringing routine would result in them being told to leave, decent quote or not. I said that I wanted their best price straight away as I didn't have time to play games.

Hubby just cringed.

:D

Mind you, I once got a company in to give me a quote for plasticote covering on the end wall of my house. When he came, he gave me the talk and went on a bit. When I asked him how much it would be he replied that if I had to ask, I couldn't afford it so I told him to leave. He then said,'But don't you want to know how much it will cost?' to which I said no as I obviously couldn't afford it. I sent a very bemused salesman packing...I was a bit bolshy but he annoyed me. Looking back, I must have had a bad day at school that day.

Debs please do inform the police and trading standards. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable.

Strangely enough I had just the other problem. A couple of years ago on a freezing cold and rainy Saturday, a young girl knocked asking me to change electricity suppliers. I asked her in and made her a cup of tea. She sat at the kitchen table filling in forms whilst I continued to peel potatoes and other veg. I never heard anything ever again. How odd is that!

We don't have a chain, but I find a stable door with the bottom firmly locked and three unfed Labradors tends to put unwanted visitors off.........actually they are always fed...too well in one case  , but they are very enthusiastic to meet any new person, just in case they are a new best friend  and this tends to put "unwanteds" off quite quickly

I hope the company get back to you soon Debs with a satisfactory response
