chickenopolis
Flo, our has just taken herself off to bed. It's still light. Do they do that?? She has snuggled down in the nest box (freshly cleaned out today with lots of straw). Glo, still rootling around for that elusive grub shows no sign of heading to the roosting bars. Flo seemed in fine form today, digging for her share of the worms in our garden but she took herself off about 5pm. Eyes are bright, comb is red and warm, she seems OK - just a bit concerned. x
Eggquisite
Hi - ours do this from time to time too , in fact Muffin took herself off about 4.30, the lure of a nice clean too must to resist From what you have said it doesn't sound like Flo has any ailments (but we're no eggsperts) - perhaps she just fancies an early night tonight although the nights are drawing in soooo quick now)
chickenopolis
That's what I thought - thanks for the reassurance - why do we worry so much about these ladies! Thought Glo was going up to join her a minute ago, but there might be a worm she hasn't eaten yet. ..busy...busy...busy....
Janty
My pekins take themselves off to bed very early to get their favourite spot in the cubes before the big girls arrive.
coco
Pipa my smallest chook always goes to bed first. Last night I watched her for ages going in and out of the house looking at the other two as if to say 'Come on I want to go to bed now.' They eventually went in about half an hour later. cluckingmad
bless her - its meant to be quite cold tonight, so maybe she decided a nice early night was called for
Hen Watch
Maybe she just wanted to grab the cosiest spot........ I have one that does this sometimes (and bags then nestbox and poos in it all night.....). As nights draw in apace now, they will go to bed earlier and earlier. Tends to be half an hour before dusk my lot put themselves away. In deepest winter mine have been known to be in bed by 4pm and the kids don't even get to see them when they come home from school.
