Griffin
I've taken about 64286092467 photos today in an attempt to decide what my chicks are. I#ll do two threads, one for the Silkies and one for the Polands. For comparison I took some of my definite boy & girl Silkies to demonstrate the differences for those that don't know. My Silkie chicks are 13/14 weeks old but don't seem to follow the correct pattern for sexing So without further ado, here is young Bernard who is a 17 weeks old and very much a boy. Thick, raised, bobbly comb and I knew he was a boy from the age of 4 weeks just because of his comb. Next is Elvis, aged 23 weeks: And his good lady Penelope: Now here comes the tricky bit Nymphadora: Nelly didn't want his/her photo taken and after a roll in the mud was having a bad hair day I couldn't get a photo of all of Nelly because she/he then flew off and hid under a coop Opinions on Nymphadora & Nelly please. Space Chick
That is tricky I'm going Nympadora - boy; Nelly - girl.
Redwing
I'm going to say they are the other way round to what Space Chick thinks so girl, boy
craftyhunnypie
Nymphadora & Nelly - both girls I think. The boys hairdo's usually have longer bits at the back - like obvious streamers. Fingers crossed eh? The girls tend to have more rounded afro hairdo's as they grow up. Emma.x
Griffin
These two are without a doubt the hardest to sex Silkies I've ever had It comforts me to see you all disagreeing too Nymphadora has girls hair but the comb & wattles could be boyish. Nelly has a girls comb & no wattles but boyish hair Nymhadora is by far the friendliest Silkie I've got and I really really want it to be a girl so she can stay. Plum
They are so comical, really lovely. Just a thought about sexing chickens, if you look at the vent and it is pulsing would that make it a girl
