Nogs
Hi there, I just wanted to share my news. I have a cube and 3 omlet Gingernuts and I now I have added three more a Pepperpot, White Sussex and a White Leghorn. We had the omlet ones first then added an extension and then the other 3 chickens. They didn't fight much but the Leghorn is still pecking over a week on. She also is very jittery and won't come to eat from our hand yet. I have read that they aren't the tamest or friendliest but wondered if she would settle down with the others as she is always taking their food off them or pecking to make them drop it. Does anyone have any experience of these? Will she always be quite aggressive? Other than that the only one laying is the pepperpot, the gingernuts are about 22 weeks. Will they lay before long or not as it's winter now? The others are about the same age but have red combs and are bigger in size. Metallica Polly Birdy Coop Queen Amadala Bolt Thank you! Redwing
They can be flighty, she will settle down with the others given time but as she is probably faster, lighter and quicker may always have the upper hand Put a few feeding and drinking stations around as she cant police them all then and the others should be able to eat in peace sometimes As long as she doesnt draw blood I wouldnt intervene
chickencam
I had a White Star, which is leghorn hybrid and she was always very flighty and pecked herself and others. You probably don't want to hear this, but I wouldn't have another one. She lived for about 18 months and was an amazing egg layer, but never really seemed happy. The Dogmother
Liz and Tasha have summed up leghorns very well - total nutters! Let her get on with it, she can't be everywhere at once. Be prepared to bumper bit her if she starts to draw blood though.
Space Chick
I have a leghorn hybrid (White Star), and she calmed down once she started laying. She is still a complete nutter though and will mug you for any treats, but she is an angel with other girls. In fact when I recently integrated my 2 newbies, she looked out for them, and if any of the others had a go, she'd intervene It depends on each individual girl I suppose, but if all White Stars were like my Rose, I wouldn't hesitate in having more
