this might sound a daft question

does it matter if 3 or my girls sleep facing the wall of the coop as apposed to sleeping with they’re backs to the wall?

I’m thinking it’s started to get cold and I’m concerned about them getting they’re combs /heads damp then if the temperature drops below freezing latter in the night that they might get frostbite. Your thoughts would be welcome please

I wouldn't be too concerned to be honest, some people's chickens perch, some do not and some sleep in the nest box - so they are all different. Chickens are also hardier than you think - all those feathers are really the ideal winter duvet, and out there somewhere in the wilds some chickens roost outside in trees so your girls really sleep in luxury!

Thanks for that it's the type of daft thoughts I get when I'm stuck in traffic (45mins to get through Brum this afternoon ) and its bugged me all night since so I thought I'd ask

My girls sleep where they want! I am getting fed up with them pooing in the nest box. The coop gets so dirty during the winter!

Mine sleep in the nest box regardless of anything I do to deter them! I've just kind of accepted it now. I hope that when I get three more in the Spring there isn't enough room for all of them in the nest box and they start roosting on the bars instead.

I pop a small tub trug in the hole through to the nest box, that keeps them out!

 

I leave the door open at night unless it's really cold and they always seem OK.

My lavender araucana won't have anything to do with her warm snuggly eglu, but prefers to sleep on a roosting bar high up in the WIR. You can take a horse to water.........
