Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

Hi all,

 

I bought a small Rabbit/Chicken House & run from ebay (Cost £80 including delivery i think) for my Tortoise but the tortoise didn't like it (Took me ages to put all of his stuff in too )

 

So i'm wondering will it be OK as a brooder?

 

The run is about 4 X 2 X 2 the house is about 1 X 2 X 2 and the bars on the run are 1" X 1"

I'd say it would work great. You will need a proper heat source - lamp or artifical hen thingy.

Did you not have an infra red lamp you used before with the seramas? I'd put it over the run so they're warm

Nope i used one of the tortoises spare spot bulbs last time (worked fine & the chick seemed fine with it)

 

I might be getting a electric hen from flyte so fancy (quite pricey though)

A light bulb in a clay plant pot upside down works well. The chicks all gather around the warm pot. They can move away from it if they get too warm. Worked for us a couple of years ago with rescue chicks a day or two old.
