You girls! I'm going to have to buy some eggs at this rate!

Recommended Posts

Five chooks and none of them laying at the moment!

Our three hybrids are all moulting as it's their second and third winter and therefore having a little rest from laying. They have worked so hard for us up until now bless 'em.

Our two little upper class madams, Roxy and Ruby Bumbler, this year's Buff Orpingtons, have decided that they'd rather not lay until the spring now if it's all the same to us?!?!?!!

Being about 30 weeks now, I think if they were going to lay this year they would have done by now, what do you think?... Looks like I'm going to have to add eggs to my shopping list this week, and for a good while yet!

Either that... or my chicken maths is definitely telling me there could be room for two feisty new hybrid layers in the flock??!!

I know how you feel! Of my 12 laying age big girls, I'm only getting 3-4 eggs a day at the mo! My colleagues at work are gagging for some spare eggs!!

I do have some gorgeously feathered exbatts though!

Don't even get me started on the bantams!!!

I think chicken maths would surely say you need a couple more though!

Out of 9 hens,I get 4-5 a day.The ex bats have gone into retirement which is fine with me as I think they have worked hard enough already. All of my original girls are pretty much still laying every day without fail :clap: We have to keep giving eggs away to the family as we are snowed under with them!

Lucky you Dippy Bird. Only 2 eggs every other day here at the mo. One hen broody and the older girls on strike for the winter and getting over their moulting. Bunty is due to lay any day now I think, as Sir Minky is spending loads of time with her. Still, I am alone until the 12 of December so that's enough eggs for me.

Raining here today, the hens are loving it.:dance: So am I, it means no work in the garden, just sitting around drinking coffee and reading my book, as well as being on here. I do have a pile of ironing to do though. :(

My GNR and PP haven't laid regularly for months, none at all for a couple of months. My darling (white chicken) recovered from what I thought was going to be her final days earlier in the summer and has been laying 5-6 eggs a week but the whites are really runny and repulsive so we only use them in cooking.

I'm assuming my two freeloaders have now passed the Henopause at the tender age of 2 because they can't have been moulting for this long.

Twenty chooks and only two eggs yesterday!!!

I have four teenagers who have yet to start laying but the rest are a mixture of moulters, broodies and far too posh to push!

My colleagues egg boxes are stacking up next to the egg skelter but not being filled very quickly!

Well, it sounds like I'm not alone anyway!

Funny how life happens. After I wrote this yesterday I saw Becky Boo's post about the poor ex-barn hens and felt so awful for them that I called the BHWT. They've now offered me three of their surplus hens which I am picking up on Saturday. I'm not expecting them to lay as they seem really tired out, but hopefully we can give them a nice peaceful place have a nice rest and live their days out.

It's not all about eggs, is it... we love em really...

Now, you spoilt Orpy girls! Stop eating us out of house and home and Get Laying!! !eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!!eggbrown!

I'm getting two more on Saturday too!! So might see you all there - it's muddy and a really rough track just to warn you. My ex barn girls gave us 4 the first day, 1 the second day, then two and today 4 so you will almost certainly get some eggs and for a while to come just not every day which is fine by us.

A mini Omlet meet!! I'll be in the big red people carrier covered in flower stickers and scratches and full of excited kids!
