A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I think I signed a petition after the furore about that elderly couple who weren't allowed to keep chickens in their garden. Poet(?) was doing stuff about it at the time and we were all up in arms about it. Anyways, the Number 10 website has now posted a response, and it's here: http://www.number10.gov.uk/Page21686 So it looks like anyone wanting to get chicken-keeping bye-laws ditched needs to lobby on a local/personal level. Guest
just to be clear, the petition wasn't started by me but we felt, in addition to lobbying gateshead council on behalf of the Lewis couple, that it would be a good idea to sign it. For anyone who isn't aware, the Lewis couple were allowed to keep their chickens in the end, thank goodness! There was something in the allotments act that their solicitor used to 'persuade' the council to change their mind but knowing they had a huge amount of support really kept the Lewis' spirits up. I'm sure we all made the council think twice as well! I'm still in touch with 2 of their grandchildren.
