sadietoo
For those facebookers amongst us a friend of mine has put this on his wall : If you don't know, as of today, Facebook will automatically index all your info on Google, which allows everyone to view it. To change this option, go to Settings --> Privacy Settings --> Search --> then UN-CLICK the box that says 'Allow indexing'. Facebook kept this one quiet. Copy and paste onto your status... Geoid
Its nothing to worry about: Public search resultsThis setting only allows search engines to access your publicly available information and any information you set to Everyone. this does not include anything you've shared with just your friends or friends of friends
Lewis
But if you set something to everyone, then it could appear on google if someone put in your name I changed mine yesterday
majorbloodnock
But if you set something to everyone, then it could appear on google if someone put in your name Yes. Everyone means EVERYONE. That's the thing about social networking. People often forget that this whole aspect of interaction relies on people publicising personal details. Retaining your privacy and/or anonymity isn't about choosing the right tick box; it's about being circumspect about what you post about yourself on a public network (i.e. the Internet). Lewis
Oh I know I'd just rather not give more freedom for it to appear in Google ... makes me feel better anyway
henriette
Oh dear,I feel a panic coming on! I understand very little of what goes on with facebook. I only use it to play farmville and now I'm wondering whether that is a mistake
Seagazer
Oh dear,I feel a panic coming on! I understand very little of what goes on with facebook. I only use it to play farmville and now I'm wondering whether that is a mistake I've just started keeping up with family on it and I have to admit I'm not sure that I like it. This is different as its sort of anonymous but with facebook, I'm just not sure. I'm really thinking of closing mine down. Not that I know what I'm doing on it anyway
Old Speckled Hen
My account started getting out of hand. A few friends turned into a few more and more and more, then there was family I'd never heard of. So I trashed all but the few I do talk to and go in every day to throw out ALL other invitations. I am a person of few "friends" It is useful to get hold of a daughter who sometimes ignores email and text, especially when I catch her online
