We've seen a couple of rats dashing in and out of the run when the chickens are freeranging. The chickens don't seem to mind but the food isn't cheap, we have neighbours terrified of anything which moves & we don't know if they carry any diseases... We've moved the run so they can't get under but they still go through the door when the chickens are out.

 

What to do?

Bring their food in at night, clear the garden of hidey places and put bait boxes around the garden.

I had a rat problem a few weeks ago, it was a nightmare. Get the pest control people in straight away, rats carry disease and pee all over the place. You don't what your chickens catching anything. Get rid of the rats! Rats also breed rapidly and you don't want to be over run with them, now they know there's a regular supply of food they will come back every day.

They will carry diseases you really need to stop them running in the run and they may attack your girls when they are sleeping.
