They wont go outside..

Recommended Posts

Since we've had this snow my ducks wont come out there hutch. They've been init for 3 days without coming out. I tried to get them out today and as soon as i got them out they went straight into the house. Do ducks stay indoors while winter is here?

We've also moved their hutch closer to the house because they simply dont stay in there pen when they out let out the hutch in the morning so ive taken the pen down and cornered off near the hutch to keep any foxes etc getting at them.

Thanks!

Mine were not fond of the snow even the wild mallards wouldnt go on the frozen pond yesterday and flew over to our garden (I ended up clearing the snow so they had a patch of grass to eat some pellets). They really were not happy mallards & looked quite pathetic.

The chickens (which I dont know a lot about)...I had to lift two of them in yesterday after a very short spell out as it was just too deep and cold..today they stayed in their run even when I left the door open...

As long as they have food and their water is not frozen over I wouldnt worry about them, its very easy for ducks to get leg injuries so they are probably happier in!

Indie :)

Mine a like bats-out-of-hell as soon as we open the door on their house each morning... that was, "until the snow came"

They rushed out first day with the snow... the promptly disappeared up to their middles, and ran back in.

Since then, 2 days later, they only venture out very occasionally for a bite to eat, and some water.

They weren't like this last year - they didn't seem to mind the snow at all then - I think it's just because it's so deep here this year. We easily have 7-8", deeper than that in places.

I wouldn't worry too much to be honest... as long as they know where their food and water is, I'm sure they'll go and find it!

:D
