brave or stupid?

Recommended Posts

How often do we hear that someone that has risked their lives actually saving a dog? The dog always gets out on it's own. The chances of actually being able to do anything with a dog in the water to help it are minimal at best (unless you are helping them out at the bank). If you do actually reach it in difficulty it is likely to thrash around and resist your rescue attempts and quite possibly cause you harm. Dogs are going to be stronger swimmers that their owners and their survival instinct will see them through.

hey

In that situation it is very difficult to do nothing.

There is a beach near here that i use to walk the dog along most of )the time. The beach has been extended into the sea and so at the end of it you come to a wooden retaining wall and an 8 foot drop into the sea. The nearest section of beach you can walk back onto (instead of climbing up the wall) is a good 200 foot away and you can't walk down the retaining wall because of beach huts you have to go back round another way and it's a good 20 min walk. The second time i was walking down there thankfully with a friend and his dog, my dog ran off the edge on an extending lead attached to his collar. Thankfully the retaining wall has wooden sections you can climb down and just about stand on if your agile so i was able to scramble down and lift him out (he is a spaniel) with assistance from said friend and ended up with no injuries worse than two strained back muscles some s"Ooops, word censored!"ed hands and some ruined shoes but if the wooden bars been there i couldn't have not have jumped in and swam with him any more than i could have stopped breathing. It's totally stupid just as climbing down a wall onto a wet wooden bar half covered in sea water was but for me it's impossible not to.
