Smart Feeder - Light sensor values

I have 8 chooks and 7 ducks calls and runners.I have the omlet feeding bowls all around the run as well as the glugs plus dog bowls with water in them.I change the waters daily as the ducks drink loads plus make them dirty.When l go on holiday my mum looks after them but l want to try and make it less work for my mum as she said there alot of work for her.I thought about a big drinker that holds litres of water were the ducks and chooks can share it while im away this would be with the other bowls just so l know they will always have enough as mum is getting forgetful to top the water up.Do any of you use a big drinkesr that holds litres rather then just pints.We are going away in april am im worrying already

You dont have to even use the automatic thing but it works with a waterbut.

I thought about that but wonder weather the ducks would be able to use it

They would be able to drink from it but there's not enough water for them to dunk their heads. It's important to have some clean water for them to dunk under as their ponds are usually so mucky as soon as you've filled them

my ducks have the 30 litre metal drinker and are fine with it they also have a very large pond.

My friend uses a storage box on a table above the drinker with a hose going down to it which is good as it takes up no space and is the perfect height to top it up.

What a brilliant idea

I have a similiar problem to, the ducks go in the chicken run in the day and nick all of their water!. Could one of you let me know where i could get hold of the automatic drinker you have illustrated.

Hi Tara, just my 2 cents. We use one of the automatic drinkers as well. They're great though they still freeze up as does the feeder tube this weather.

 

If you don't have room for a water butt you could connect it to the mains if you have an outdoor tap.

What about a superglug it holds 10 pints the only thing is im not sure ducks can use it.

yes they can use them if you hang them low enough they like to dip their heads in. i flogged mine when i sold the cube though. Forgot about being able to use them actually
