Lesley
We had a brilliant time on the river cruise and moored up to the side of Houses of Parliament to watch the fireworks go off. The only downside was the herding that you go through to get back to the railway station. You go on such a long detour. Free rail travel though and trains every half hour. So much rubbish on the street too What is it like when you are actually there? - I like to hear the chimes and I like to see the fireworks on TV - but ....(and I know this might just be me) the fireworks seem to go on too long. I actually get bored of them and wish it was a shorter display Then I start thinking of the cost of the whole thing, just to be better than other countries, and I go to bed dissatisfied with the whole thing. jlo
Only just got back from our hols to find so many red stars that I don't know where to begin! We were on the beach by the Burj al Arab in Dubai watching fireworks go off and dancing and drinking and eating and having a bit of a fab time. I was slightly delicate in the morning however! It was a bit odd to not be with the friends that we usually spend NYE with however. They said that they would toast us at 8pm as we were counting in the New Year. I couldn't wait up till 4 am to return the favour! Never sen those candles that people are talking about but they sound like fun!

Thats exactly what I thought! They were really good, and I appreciated it all, but then I looked at the time and realised we'd been watching them for 8 minutes (and thought 8 minutes without any music was a bit excessive). I thought about the cost too (and environmental cost), it must take them weeks to prepare something like that! Very cleverly done though, they could do a lot more with lights rather than just fireworks ... but then thats probably just because that all I think about I did like that lots of people were releasing those air lanterns
Seagazer
We watched the fireworks back on the tv last night and they seemed so much longer than when we were there! How does that happen. It was very exciting whilst we were there, we had some very lively Irish ladies on the front of the boat with us who made everyone giggle. London is so beautiful at night too.
