rufusrooster
Dottie arrived on 9th December, was concerned she had no tail at all and just a big bald bum, purple spray and a few weeks have sorted that, starting to come back nicely but ive now started to worry why she has no comb at all at 20+ weeks old, just sort of two ridges with a trough in the middle, is this unusual ? is it possibe she will never have a comb ? tom123
Wyandottes don't generally have big combs... It should redden up in time, as she is a pure breed she probably wont lay until March now so just give it time, it'll grow
Redwing
Toms right Wyandottes have rose combs This is my Wyandotte right of this pic with her friend who is the same age and has a standard single comb So nothing to worry about!
Plum
She's just a baby. Motmot is 40 weeks and has little comb yet.

francesca88
On the subject of Wyandottes (sorry to hijack your thread, Rufus), when do they start laying?? I've had mine (bantam) since August, and not one egg yet
Redwing
How old is she? Mine is about 7-8 months old and isnt laying, she would have reached point of lay at the end of lat year but thats when they stop laying till the spring, I'm expecting the first egg about March
francesca88
She is is around 8-9 months now, so not sure what is going on! Not that I mind too much, she is just pretty to look at really! Do all hens generally stop laying through the winter? 6 of mine are still laying almost every day!
Redwing
Lots of pure breeds will stop laying over winter, some go through their first winter but miss out all the others! if your hen was just coming to laying age she may well tag the winter on Each hen is different! Hybrids can and often do lay through winter
