I have recorded it for 1 am Sunday morning - there is another later on in the week. I managed to catch some of it on an earlier programme and it shows you how to do blocks and such. I did see an advert with Dolly Parton. And for the men - tractors! Very American and rather gospel on Sunday. I think the next one is next Friday (but it's part 2 of a Tennessee thing) but I've linked it so I can see future sessions. Or cut the pieces one day, sew it together without cooking food for the family and sorting out chickens, pets etc, cleaning the next day and finally a quick zippy quilting session on the machine. Valkyrie Posted January 17, 2010 Author Share Posted January 17, 2010 Well I watched it - and if you can tune out the folksy type of talk (the woman is always trying to smile for the camera) it is quite interesting. You also get a bumper crop of American style ads for other programmes and ads for sewing machines and her own quilt shop. But at the start of the programme she shows you lots of different quilts - same Tennessee Waltz pattern, but in different colours. Fantastic. Then she shows you how to piece them - now here comes the bad bit - she has wonderful gadgets! Like a big square ruler thingy with slits cut inside at certain intervals - in goes the rotary cutter and zip zip zip - lots done already! Want one of those!!!! Then - which rather endeared me to her - she said - "we don't want those bits" and chucked them over her shoulder. Oh to be able to do that! Then triangle gadgets! Want those too. Must drag my friend along to the NEC one day. Or I think OH owes me a trip - there are lots of long suffering husbands there too. When we went to Florida I did as many quilt shops as I could - much to the children's delight - not, and one day they they were being particularly naughty so we went to a quilt shop and left them outside in the car (in view). The elderly ladies pounced on Murray and gave him a cartoon book for him to look through to help him understand that he was not alone! Can just see your kids poor little dejected faces My hubby used to go to America for Nascar races and he visited quilt shops to pay penance and bring me back lovely bundles. There was only one shop that the ladies were a bit tutty - so I didn't buy much there. Of course we had to buy another suitcase for all the others! These old ladies love the young men (don't we all ahem) - more so when they are doing something wonderful like buying fabric for their wives! I'm surprised he was able to leave the shops! She has already changed to a double bed - thus putting yet another obstacle in the way. It was the first one I ever attempted - talk about how not to put a patchwork project together! She's doing the second block called a snowball - bit more dull - don't let it put you off - tis the technique you need - and you can see the other bits on the board behind her on the right of the screen. It is called 'Talking threads' and each episode highlighted the work of a different textile artist (including Di Wells, Gilda Baron, Mary Gamester). It is quite a new series filmed in 2009 in the UK (no yeehaws here). It was on satellite tv a couple of months ago but you can now find all of the series on the website www.countrychannel.tv (along with a myriad of other interesting shows - french polishing anyone?). She has to be referring to the quilt top - because she won't be able to add wadding plus backing plus binding and quilting in one day. Impossible - even if you are Speedy Gonzales with the sewing machine! Then I wonder if it all goes on one of those computerised long armed machines that does wadding and backing at the same time - so she can make another top while the quilting is zipping along nicely. Not quite as good as last week, but I did wonder if she'd show the quilting - which she did. The website has a good long session of quilting on there - and contradicts what my teacher told me. I think I'll go with the Eleanor Burns version and perhaps find some old rubbishy stuff to practice with. I have lot's of large pieces of batting already cut from the edges of my quilts.
