One of my chickens sleeps in the nest box. The last few mornings the straw has been very wet beneath where she slept. She seems well enough in herself, is eating and spent time FR raound the garden today. Before bedtime I gave them all some bakashi bran mixed with probiotic yogurt and poultry spice. What else should I do? They haven't been wormed so could she have worms?

Don't know if it helps but I found mine are a bit more wet if they have had a lot of grapes or greens. My one with a prolapse also passed loads of fluid at night when she was in trouble but then it wasn't just wet it was swimming.

 

If she is well in herself, I wouldn't worry too much. I can just think of cutting out treats and see if it improves and just check her all over for usual health signs and maybe check her abdomen isn't swollen.

If they haven't been wormed then it would be a sensible precaution to take.

Many like to use herbal supplements which are reputed to make the gut hostile to parasites.

Most cases of chook runs can be sorted with the following routine.

 

1. worm them if you haven't done so in the last 4 months.

 

2. remove any treats, fruit and veg from their diet

 

3. give just dry pellets or mash, plus Bokashi Bran in live yoghurt, ACV and Avipro in the water.

 

This usually knocks it on the head, but if it's an oviduct infection - as opposed to digestive - then you'll need to pop her along to the vet.

Thanks for all the advice. This morning the nest box had some fairly solid droppings so I am hoping her runs have gone.
