Redwing
Take a few 'muddy' eggs (not too muddy) and show them what an egg looks like when its not from a supermarket Cracking one on to a plate will show the kids how the yolk looks differerent - if you can get your hands on some cheapo supermarket eggs ask them to compare the contents without sticking their hands in take some feed and show them what she eats Take some hand cleansing gel with you A mock up nesting box with some bedding and a few eggs in will give a visual A puppy cage is good to keep the hen away from the kids when they arent stroking her - better visibility than a cat carrier

Lewis
I took Purkinje and one of the cream legbars into school, then Purkinje and Theodore. A bit different because it was for a sixth form open evening, but we had them in a cat carrier inside a covered rabbit run on newspaper so its easy to clean up We had a couple of tables with photos, eggs, samples of the different feed and then the incubator set up with (unfertile) eggs in. Maybe print off a few colourful posters with facts on to get them interested and have a look at Omlets school downloads.
The Dogmother
Our girls have been into school, brownies and guides on various occasions and they seem to love every minute of it, although watch out for them panting if they get too hot. I devised a quizz for the children, took in eggs, feed and some large printed out photos. Be prepared for loads of questions, some daft and others very astute I have never known so many small children sit still and quiet for so long! The Dogmother
Take some old tea towels so that they can have the chickens on their laps. Get the teacher to make sure that none of the children are allergic to feathers, and that they all wash their hands thoroughly afterwards.
