Seeds Ordered!

Recommended Posts

I have started the planning, and working out what to grow this year, and ordered my seeds online! Should be arriving any day....

The chickens, much to their joy, were put into the veg patch yesterday to finish off the last of the winter produce and break the soil up for me - not to mention eating all the slugs and other nasties. They thought it was heaven - they never came up for air!!

So, am planning:

Tomatoes - 4 varieties that were very nice last year

2 leeks - an early and winter

lettuce - all sorts!!

Cabbages - red and white - the last time - if they don't work, I ain't trying again!

Spring onions - a first for me...

very hot chilli peppers - perfect for that chilli jam in the all things nice pages!

Runner Beans

Courgettes - a bush plant, so hoping take up slightly less room...

Carrots - couple of varieties/colours

Beetroot - red and golden- also a first for me.

spinach

Potatoes - to put in sacks. Never tried this before either, but heard very successful.

So what are you growing/ordering/planning? Spring is just around the corner :D

Moreveg.

Always been really good and reliable to me, and seeds have done well. Plus small cheaper packets, so I can buy more varieties!

Potatoes I got from Wiggly Wigglers though (as per their email that went out last week!).

Toms are:

Garden Pearl - trailing to put in a basket. Really small and sweet last year

Golden Queen - a lovely yellow tomato

Marmande - a red tomato with odd shapes! Amused me :D And again I liked the flavour

And a big beef tomato, I can't remember the name of... I like stuffed tomatoes!

I have some Dunluce potatoes chitting on the windowsill. They seem to have survived winter in the fridge salad crisper :D . I'm also planning to force some Kidney International in a bag or two and plant Golden Wonder and Pink Fir Apple later.

The Golden Beets did really well and I'm the only one that eats them .... yum yum.

Yellow courgette

Green beans

Tomato Sungold and Gardener's delight. Tried Marmande last year and got nowhere.

Might try cucumbers again. I planted them too late last year and had plenty of babies just as the greenhouse had to be cleared :(

I got loads of seeds from here: http://www.realseeds.co.uk/ last week they have no F1 hybrids and actively encourage you to keep your own seeds - all seeds come with instructions of how to collect and reuse your own seeds in future. They are also all varieites suitable in a domestic situation. I ordered too much to list here :oops:

They have been rated as the 'best ethical buy' apparently.

My MoreVeg order came today & I am really impressed both by the speed of it,& the excellent packaging of the seeds,in little clear bags,so you can see them.

Hate, hate, hate those silly tiny foil lined things, which spray the seeds everywhere when you open them

A nice hand written personalised note thanking me for my order too - sweet :P

I am not going to buy any seeds this year!

I went a bit mad last year and bought loads and loads from The Real Seed company.:roll:

So I am going to use up what I have first. I will no doubt get some more parsnip and carrot seed amongst other things free from magazines. 8)

And I am going to leave a few of my monster parsnips to go to seed for next year.

I also saved my own pea seeds and some rather strange 'preans' which i grew for seed from a couple of plants gifted me by a complete stranger from Saltburn Allotments :D

I am planning to save a few more of my own seeds this year if I have time to master it!

It'll soon be sowing time!

Kev.
