ClaireG
Has anyone got any advice / tips? I've had a head cold which has left me with blocked ears. They are driving me mad now I've been using olive oil and de-congestion tablets, neither have helped that much. Have been to see the nurse this morning and she has just advised me to carry on with the oil and tablets
The Dogmother
The olive oil will help with any wax, but I suspect that the blockage might be in your eustacian tube. Try doing some steam inhaling; always works for me. You can join me in being a 'bit mutton' then Claire - my hearing is dodgy after too many gigs as a teenager (without ear defence!), and an accident which burst one of my eardrums. ClaireG
Thanks Clare. Will give the steam a go.
The Dogmother
If you've got some, a few drops of Menthol & Eucalyptus inhalant (or Olbas Oil) helps
Snowy
Definitely give the steam a go Claire. It's a common after effect of having a cold I'm afraid. It should clear on it's own in a couple of days but the steam will help it along. Try to stop the decongestants unless you really need them as you can get a rebound blockage if you use them all the time.
ClaireG
Thanks Snowy. Will stop the sudafed. Have had a steam and will steam more later
Christian
Try a steam inhaler cup like this one - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Medical-Sundries-Steam-Inhaler-Cup/dp/B001TGNN6C I use it most days and find it really helps.
chickenNutter
You could find an alternative therapist and try Hopi ear candles. They work on a sort of vacuum (that's pressure not hoovering!) principle I believe, so they might help to clear your eustachian tube. I don't know too much about it, but I am sure someone else on here might.
