Eclectic home
We have a very noisy Cockerel! We are told if he can roost high in the cube he wont be able to stretch his throat to crow. Has anyone got any advice about hoe to fix a perch into the cube.......is anyone having the same thoughts? Has anyone designed a eglu perch? Redwing
Yes the theory is if they cant strech they cant crow however I have had a few crow from a small cat carrier so not sure how the theory works... I wouldnt recommend drilling in to the cube or anything but making a free standing perch You'd have to be sure the cockerel used the perch though, my bet is he would let the girls have it! Other considerations are boxing him in a cardbopard box and place that on the cube bars so his crows are muffled or trying to soundproof the cube a biit (without covering the air holes) you could put the cbe behind a solid fence in the garden or something
Patricia W
Making sure he has a full crop before he goes to bed helps ( I feed the mixed corn treats as late as possible) plus darkening the eglu/cube also delays the crow if its the early morning one that bothers you. If it is, check with your neighbours because they may not mind. Mine tell me they like the sound of cockerel! Tricia
TAJ
Mine crowed at 5 am in mid-winter even locked inside an eglu with 3 girls - if that wasn't tight for having a good stretch I don't know what is! There are steps you can take, but not sure they will work for all cockerals. Tracy
Little Clucker
Its true, we tried putting the brahma inside a tiny cardboard box and utting him under the stairs and the little Devilmanaged to crow by lying down and sticking his head through an airhole! Of course then he was stuck Luckily a dozen eggs every now and then keeps the neighbours happy
