Space Chick
On 2 occasions Rose has cut herself whilst free ranging. Once in October and once today. Both times its been just above her vent, so base of her back. I have cleaned her up, and given her a good spray of Genotian Violet. She's seeming her normal self so I have left her go to bed with her sisters. I can't see how she has done this twice, anyone had this with any of their girls to maybe shed some light? She does break into the veg patches, but so do most of my girls , the fact that it has been in the same place twice is what I find most unusual
Plum
Could she have been pecked
Space Chick
I don't think so, she is second in command in the pecking order Occasionally Sarah-Jane (top chook) will pull out one of her feathers when she is dustbathing - I think its a confirming authority thing, but it never gets out of hand or nasty. Today, Rose came out to free range and was fine, when she came running over to me for corn a while later she was bleeding It was the same last time, so I am as sure as I can be that she has cut herself whilst out. Plum
Suppose she could have flown or jumped into a bush and got caught on twig No idea really.
Christian
I would suggest a peck as well Had this with one of my original girls and was baffled, until I saw one of them do it
Egluntyne
Sounds like a pecking injury to me too.
Space Chick
I shall spray her with some anti peck spray then, and watch out
