A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Is going to be axed. While the majority of people don't listen to it - it's an under-publicised digital station - it's essentially the spirit of John Peel in station form. The breadth of music, the depth of the archives they find amazing recordings from, the platform it gives to small label musicians of all ages, and the knowledge of the presenters is second to none. It has half the listenership of Radio 3 with about an eighth of the coverage. There is nothing else like it. It's like Radio 3 and Radio 4 for independent music fans - of all musical genres. The BBC should be championing uniqueness like this. If you don't listen to it, but feel the principle of the station should be upheld, please write to the BBC Trust who have the final say on the shutdown proposals. trust.enquiries@bbc.co.uk
bluekarin
I will be writing to them. This is a disgrace. BBC 6 is an excellent station with excellent presenters and music. I can only get it on my tv as my kitchen radio is still analogue (don't tend to listen to music on my PC, unless drunk ), but once I get a digital one for in there, then I was going to make the switch. Grrrr @ BBC.
chickencam
It is this sort of minority broadcasting that the BBC is meant to be all about.
Old Speckled Hen
I think in this present financial climate the BBC has spread its branches too far and needs pruning. The arguments will now come thick and fast as the axe drops. Every body with a vested interested in one branch will, of course, protest its saving, others will cite political reasons. Whatever! The BBC is a public body financed publicly. We can't afford to give life saving drugs to ill people, to care for our elderly infirm and disabled, to educate our children let alone fund quirky broadcasting services. Their time will come again as it always has.
