Settie
Hi, At the Scottish National Poultry show I bought a pair of white call ducks. I named them Rosemery and Archie. But over the last week she has been disapearing alot, and coming to bed very late or not at all. This morning she waddled of down to the burn next to the stable they live in, so I followed her to try andsee where she had been disapearing too. Anyway I fond her right next to the burn sitting on a butiful nest. I checked if she was sitting on eggs and she was! 6 of them. We have to cats to keep the rats away that live in the stable though, and rats so if they hatched they would be dead. Should I move her and her nest into my broody hen cage? When I say cage, I mean small hen house.
Lewis
If you want her to keep them, than yep, would be the best thing Not too sure they'd hatch though - if she's been leaving them overnight they may have been affected and ducks aren't the best broodys if you disturb them . Archie would also be on his own for a very long time too. A lot of things to think about!
tom123
Sounds as if she is filling the nest up at the moment not actually sitting on them yet. When she is sitting on them at night, take her, the nesting materials and the eggs and place them in the spare coop. Leave her shut in there for a day and then let her off and see if she is going to sit. Remember, don't let them near any deep water. Lesley
Would the house be big enough for her to live in until the eggs hatch? If so, I would let her hatch them - she should be able to keep the ducklings safe from rats.
