staceychristie
Lucys still poorly. Vet gave her 2 Baytril Injections, and a week of oral doses. Well she's still off colour. Combs gone Blue and she's still trying to potter around the garden. She's drinking, but not eating. I've tried to pop a bit of mashed up food in her beck, and she does take it down, but no where near enough to keep her going. Then she laid a rubbery lash eggy type thing. Vet said that we'll probably just find her dead one morning, but was happy that she wasn't suffering. She's stabilised, but has been like this for a few weeks. Tried oats, exbatt food, corn and cod liver oil etc etc, but she's not that happy to try anything. We separate her from the other girls but she can still see them, In the evening we bring her indoors with her own food/water. I guess we're just prolonging the inevitable, but has anyone got any final ideas? Thanks Stacey
Redwing
If her comb has gone blue thats not a good sign It sounds like you have done all you can TBH
Jennifer Jane
Poor Lucy, I hope she gets better. It's so difficult to know what to do for the best, isn't it? She doesn't sound well, though our ex-batt Mabel's comb went purplish when she was ill last week. This was after two visits to the vet and lots of manhandling by us to administer the Baytril. I did read that stress could be the cause of a purple comb (along with bleeding and heart problems) so I've put it down to that. Especially as she does seem much better now. Though her comb is still blue tinged. I did ask the vet if we should separate Mabel from the other girls, as she seemed to have an infection, but the vet said it was probably best for her to keep them together. I wondered what vet you use, as we went to one in Tamworth - not a poultry specialist, but friendly.
staceychristie
Thanks Jane, Well we took her away in the caravan with us this weekend (abit of rest and relaxation for her anyway). She wasn't strong enough to be left with the others unsupervised. She's doing all the good chicken things like scratching the ground and getting worms, and even following around the others. She's not quite the full shilling, but in the same way, she's not getting any worse. She's still active. Vets we went to were from this forum,at Dunton Island. Thanks again Stacey
