Torrin
They may not be going to bed yet just because it's so much lighter in the evenings now. Mine are going to bed quite late. I had a broody hen for about 6 weeks, I just let her get on with it cos I'm too soft! -and the others just got on with everything around her as normal. Hopefully they'll put themselves to bed soon
ScissorChix
Did the other hens still lay eggs in nest box and go to bed as normal? Mine are all in a cube.
quickcluck
They went to bed fine... strangely there were fewer eggs for some reason.... I'm really glad I did it now though, it must be horrid for them... Do you have anything you could use?
Torrin
Scissorchix mine just shuffled around her, laid eggs as normal and slept as normal in their cube. Have they gone to bed yet?
Chook n Boo Mum
Do you want her to hatch or is she having a futile attempt ..if the former get her a seperate house & run, some eggs & let her get on with it (having considered all the various considerations..what to do with any boys...have we really got space....is the timing right weatherwise etc) If you want to break the mood, tuck her into a dog cage propped up on some bricks to make it stable with no bedding & a pot of food & water for about 3 days...the cage will ensure that she has plenty of fresh air around her nether regions & she'll cool down & get bored with sitting within a few days. Ensure she has a safe & weather protected position while she's in the cage. When I had a broody in the cube the other girls tootled in, laid their eggs & tootled out, Buffs scooped all the eggs underneath her which I collected when I evicted her for her comfort break...once I'd got her some fertile eggs I put her in her own little nest box (a cat loo ) until I had the available for her. Hope this makes sense..I'm still fuggy-headed after a migraine earlier Good luck Sha x Edited to say......Should have read this before I posted it .it makes more sense now Edited April 1, 2010 by Guest
brambles
Hope they've gone to bed now. For what it's worth, my new girls got really confused the other night and my son had to go in the run and lift them in the roosting box. If your girl has gone broody you will need to decide whether she's to sit it out, or whether you're going to 'break' the broody spell.
