My First Easter Egg :)

Recommended Posts

4 weeks my girls have endured rain, snow, hail, winds and every other bad weather they could encounter. Poor girls :(

Today, the first day we have a bit of sun in the morning and......our first, perfectly formed, brown egg :)!egg!

I have no idea which one it was, but they were all happily telling me there was one.

It wasnt on the nest. Is it usual for them to lay them on the bars? And, for some reason, they now drag all their straw out of their nest and into their run. What should I put in instead? :eh:

Im so pleased, just had to share with you all

No eggs today :(

Slightly worrying though, a large fox was in our neighbours garden. He didnt even blink when I went outside and up to the dividing wall. He did limp away though, eventually. Im hoping he was just resting. Maybe he has been hit by a car.

The girls could sense something wasnt right.

Maybe tomorrow I might get another egg !eggbrown!

Happy Easter everyone (hatch)

I have only had my hens for two weeks and one is laying. I got my first egg last Saturday and was so disappointed on Sunday when there wasnt one :( but then I have had 5 more since then! I know it is sad but it is the best part of my day when I open up that door and there is a perfect egg waiting for me! I am sure the novelty will wear off!!!!!!!!!!!

We have a fox that comes in to our garden occasionally and I have noticed muddy paw prints on the cube (cube purple) some mornings but the girls seem to be ignoring it and my dog is making sure it feels unwelcome. I have heard that getting the men in the house to wee in a bucket and then marking the boundary of your garden with this will deter foxes if you have any willing men around :?: Might be worth a try.

Ooo my 7 year old likes the idea of scent marking the chickens, 19 year old looked disgusted at me when I siggested it to him. :)

Just got back from dinner out, thought Id put extra straw in for the girls and, there was a perfectly formed egg in the nest. They must have waited till Mr Fox was out of the way before leaving me a contribution.

Now what shall I have for tea? ;)!eggbrown!
