Josh

Someone with more experience will come along soon. I'd firstly separate her and/or bring her in so I could keep an eye on her. In fact, I'd bring her in personally.

I think you may have to treat for 2 problems - the digestive problem and the back damage.

First the damage on the back. Do you have any purple spray? It's antiseptic. Otherwise, I think people have used Savlon or something like that.

Any idea what has caused it? Does she have mites, has she been pecked by the others?

Treat the digestive problem by adding bokashi bran or something similar to her feed. If she won't eat, make sure she keep hydrated. Syringe water into her if necessary.

I'm sure others will have lots more advice.

ok just from the pic i'd say

The feathers dont look too bad, when you wash a chicken they always look like there are feathers missing

There is a little red area, that could be pecking from the other hens but looks reasonably normal ish - ask your dad if there is any soreness

The preen gland (that little lump) looks dirty and crusty, get your dad to check that this isnt sore or bleeding anywhere

The area above (as you look at the pic) the preen gland also looks dirty, again check for injuries

If there are any injuries they'll need to be treated with some antiseptic spray or wound powder, purple spray would do but it will ruin your chances of showing her till she moults next - dont let that put you off though, the main thing is that she is ok

It depends on what your dad is seeing that we cant from the pic

We don't normally ask people to post larger pics, but if you could upload one that is max 600 pixels wide, we could have a better look.

From what I can see, there is still poo among the feathers which needs clearing up.

If your hen has the squitts, I wouldn't enter her for a show until she has been better for at least a week.

Bakashi bran is popular over here where there is more of a pet market

If your dad cant get some ask him to put the bird on plain wheat or corn for a day or two, that should clear up the runs

She does need a good shampoo to get that mess out then needs putting somewhere warm to dry off

I still cant clearly see what the problem is but antiseptic wont do any harm

Josh - I hope I'm not missing something which your Dad can see and we can't, but like Redwing and Egluntine I can't really see what the problem is other than she seems to have poo on her feathers. When you wash birds (particularly orps) you realise just how much of their bodies are just fluff and feathers. It is quite normal for there to be patches of just skin - the fluff and feathers curl over and hide it 99% of the time. Your Dad needs to get rid of any poo and dry her (catching cold after a proper washing down to the skin can be dangerous). When she's dry and fluffed up again if she looks normal she's probably fine. Cut out all treats to try to get rid of the runny poo, and/or try giving her straight wheat for a few days.
