At what age boy/girl ?

Recommended Posts

No unfortunately not we are off to the breeders tomorrow to have a preview and they are about 6 weeks old i think ?

She has said she would be happy to let us have them from 6-8 weeks if big enough which I thought would be lovely for the children as not quite brave enough to hatch our own (although very tempted)

BUT was concerned if it was that early we might bring home a boy ! :?

I'd think at 6 weeks you could be able to tell if you compare them ... try and go for the ones with the smallest comb there, and not ones that are standing up tall or the most confident :)

Could you have an agreement that she will take any cockerels back, and replace them with hens?

if they are frizzle feathered pekins you can tell quite early and can be sure at 6 weeks if you have a bit of experience so I would expect the breeder to be sure by then

If they are Frizzle x Pekin then things will be a little harder

No breeder should sell chicks as girls unless they are sure so be guided by the breeders confidence in the matter and walk away if you are unsure no matter how cute the chicks are

Thanks all !

She is quite a new breeder but a friends Mum, who I know would swap a boy for a girl if needs be, but the children would find it hard once attached !!

Sounds like we should be able to tell tomorrow Yippee

Just have to decide whether to go for the Legbar my Son fell in love with that has deformed backwards feet :?::?::?::?::?::?::?::?::?:

You were right it was quite obvious which were boys even at 6 weeks so have chosen a gold Frizzle Pekin and a yellow coloured Pekin too which have the smallest combs !!

We also viewed the Legbar the dodgy footed one , now named Fleur who is coming home too :D !!!
