Mollie333 Posted April 11, 2010 Share Posted April 11, 2010 Hello everyone as you might have read, i recently lost my buff pekin girl to the fox, it also attacked my 19 pound turkey. To get my mind off things, i've decided to get 2 more pekin girls, But insted of putting them in with my 2 other pekins and 2 other pekin x silkies, i'm putting them in a seperate house, then slowly introducing them, when the rest of the girls have got over the shock of the fox. I know its a bad idea to get new girls already, but the white pekins are first come first serve, and cannot be reserved.. i now supervise my chickens when they are free- ranging, and neighbours are always out. Just seen a fox, struggling to sleep now, the chickens are secure but i'm worried.. i scared the fox off, hopefully it wont come back tonight. the fox looks young, prehaps the one that took deardry, but then again, it took on a 19 pound turkey hen who can be aggressive towards dogs.. thank goodness cheryl got away from that beast. i'll update when i have got my 2 pekins, with pictures, of course. xxx Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ain't Nobody Here Posted April 11, 2010 Share Posted April 11, 2010 I'm sure your new girls will help take your mind off it . Sounds like you're doing the right thing introduction-wise. Have you thought about a Foxwatch if you have a regular visitor? I don't have one but lots of people seem to think they work. Look forward to photos . Mollie333 Posted April 11, 2010 Author Share Posted April 11, 2010 Hi everyone, Cheryl is recoving O.K, she has her antibiotics, but the things is, she is laying beautiful eggs, but they cannot be eaten, which is a shame. i should be getting the chickens from a place called Pages Poultry, you might have heard of it, it is a good place with happy healthy chickens. My mum brought cheryl a big bag of mealworms, and a sign that says 'BEWARD OF THE TURKEY'(in my avatar picture thing) and another one for the chickens that says 'BEWARE OF THE CHICKENS' this one is different though and has a picture on it there brilliant!
