Lady Jane, my chicken who is being treated for lice currently, has a black area at the front of her comb . I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is also due to the infestation. What causes the blackness and what should I do about it?

Is it just parts of the comb that have little black bits on it?

 

When my girls have been pecked on the comb the dried blood goes black & crusty in little spots as it's healing.

My first thought too. If you can, gently wipe the area with warm water on a cotton ball and see if it comes off? Or just leave it for a few days and see.
