ewungelema
Hi everyone, after tentatively leaving the Eglu door open overnight in the WIR, my 4 hens and I were fine with this arrangement for a couple of weeks. However,(and there always seems to be one) for the last 2 nights 3 of the girls go in and the other sits and sleeps just outside the Eglu opening. My question is, are the others keeping her out or is she choosing this place to rest? she is at the bottom of the pecking order, and thus I feel most protective of her! Your wisdom on this would be appreciated...
Egluntyne
I imagine she likes sleeping al fresco. Many do. I'd check around for signs of red mite, but I guess because the others are happy to sleep there, it is unlikely to be a problem.
chickyhazel
Unless there is major bullying during the day (extremely violent pecking and chasing, attacking at every opportunity, blood drawn, etc) it is unlikely she is not being allowed in. You should really try and encourage her to sleep inside, perhaps by closing the door again for a while. She is vulnerable outside, especially at night.
