Tip If You Are Thinking Of Cancelling Pet Insurance

Recommended Posts

I have a friend that has a Scottie who is about 7. She has always had her insured and was thankful when she was younger as she had a problem with her teeth which resulted in her having lots of extractions. Recently her insurance company put up her premium big time so she thought that she would cancel it. However, she decided to have her checked over by a vet to just make sure that she was in good health before she cancelled. Thank goodness she did, she has just been diagnosed with Cushings Syndrome  Just imagine is she hadn't had the genious idea to get that final check up

omg thank goodness she did get him checked over! Vets bills mount up so quickly :(

We have an aged golden retriever, 12 yrs old now, and have been paying paet insurance since he was 9 weeks old - never claimed, and I'm not even going to try and add up how much that's cost us! It's now over £50 a month which is more than mine and my husbands life insurance put together! Reluctant to cancel it now tho as he's more likely to have something that needs attention now he's older :(

Makes me really  how they put up the premiums year after year even tho we've never made a claim

My dog Charlie's recent eye trauma (caused by a freak accident, completely unpredictable) resulted in two lots of surgery and countless other vet trips...the total bill was over £3600. His insurance (M&S) paid in full, no questions asked. I will never not insure a dog after going through this, ever!

I had to cancel Henrys insurance at Christmas, as the premiums tripled now he's 15. I have paid since he was a pup and have claimed once for £80

He's on a monthly medication which costs me £25 a month, the premiums would have been £65 a month. I do put the £40 in a special pet saving account. My premium was £20ish last year

Your friend was very wise to get her dog checked by the vet. I had a dog with Cushings disease and the drugs she needed were really expensive (thankfully she was insured). She also had to have tests every 3 months to check that the drugs were working and that the dose was correct. Cushings is an ongoing condition so hopefully the insurance will cover a great deal of the cost in the long run.

Cookie is fairly accident prone, she's had whiplash from sneezing, something stuck in her throat etc so am glad she's insured. My old dog Sally racked up over £2,000 in vets bills when we were trying to discover what was wrong with her. I'm not sure at the time that we would have had the money to cover it if it wasn't for the pet insurance. :? The vet wanted to start her on chemotherapy without really knowing what was wrong. So glad we got it checked out as she didn't need it
