These two new chickens I've got are very noisy. The last ones I had made hardly any noise. Does anyone know what the chicken noises mean, i.e happy, bored etc

How long have you had them? Sometimes they're just noisy until they settle in Are they in lay yet?

Only got them yesterday! Have one egg already

Harriet is the noisy one and seems very restless, Hermoine seems far more content and is very quiet.

Some chickens are quiet and make hardly any noise, some make noise at everything! They sometimes shout at being locked in the run too long, while they're laying an egg, when they are shocked, when they want food,... for some, the list goes on!

I did'nt realise hens made much noise until I got 2 new ones who are very noisy especially when they are laying - maybe its the breed, they haven't made my old 3 any more voiciferious.

Hoping not to tempt fate...

 

My two have settled down a bit after the intial 'crikey, I've laid an egg! GO ME!' pronouncements (they started laying a week ago tomorrow) but I think that's mostly me getting up with them at about 0630 each morning. Or I assume they have; I'm back at work this week but the neighbours insist they can't hear them...

 

I have no idea what the various noises mean though.
