Mollie333
Just wondering if anyone has ever thought about getting into turkeys, or had had turkeys, and overall what you think of them. They are such characters. Im definatly getting another few. They make great pets, the neighbourhood kids loved cheryl, too.
Daphne
I don't own turkeys and neither has my family, but they are the one bird I would most like to own. I can't believe how beautiful they are (I realise not everyone will agree with this!) I've only met them belonging to other people over the past few years - before that I had no idea how lovely they are. I have heard you should be careful if you keep turkeys and chooks together because of an increased risk of blackhead to the turkeys, and that turkeys can be a nightmare to get to bed every night - I don't know if thats true or not! If you do get another turkey Mollie I shall follow your adventures with interest
chickyhazel
We only have chickens but turkeys are pretty cute from what I've seen, although I've never seen a turkey in real life
Mollie333
HI everyone there really beautiful, didnt catch blackhead! the chooks loved cheryl. cheryl loved going in bed. we was worried about her getting in since they 'dont roost'. the first night we got her we put her in she just went to sleep. the next night she went in by herself around half 8, then the next night i picked her up and put her in early. turkeys are not very fast , they are friendly, too! Redwing
I dont have any myself although I did visit a lovely lady yesterday who has a smallholding and her two turkeys followed us around the whole time we were there, they were super birds and very characterful and I'm quite tempted to get a couple I have to say that I would probably keep them away from my chickens because of the blackhead possibility though
Mollie333
Cheryl didnt get/ give out blackhead.. as a 13 year old girl i didn't really realize that turkeys can be a danger to chickens. they have amazing personalities, too. I reccomend these birds, although they leave big droppings.. and are quite loud (in the morning- thats it, otherwise quiet birds!!)
