Hope you don't mind me asking, but on the way to Hanley this morning we saw a steam train leaving the sidings at Crewe, I thought it looked like the Mallard, but OH wasn't sure. The engine was dark green if that helps

 

It's a long shot I know but have you any idea what it could have been?

There were some of the same design in green OH says (he was a train spotter in the 50-60's )

Can I sound really knowledgeable for a mo and say it was probably 'The Union of South Africa'. Its on its way up from the severn valley to Scotland at the mo.

 

 

Now shall I admit I asked my dad ( a railway enthusiast not a train spotter plus his mate works on the severn valley)
