chicken bark
I've got my lovely 3 hybrids and I'm waiting for cuckoo maran and a couple of cream legbars chicks. The trouble is I'm not very patient so I just had to pop out and get some more hens while I waited. So now have a Speckledy, a Light Sussex and a RIR. The Speckledy is in a cat cage and the other two are in the eglu. I will put the Speckledy in with them tonight. In a weeks time I will let all 6 free range together and if that works out okay then they can all move into the solway hen house and it will free up the eglu for the chicks should they come. Fingers crossed it will all go to plan. Will put up pictures later when I've taken a few and worked out how to do it. Don't want to overwhelm all the hens too much at the moment. Wish me luck. chicken bark
So thankfully the 3 new ones seem to be all in one piece after their first night together. There has been minor bits of argy bargy. So once they are settled in a few days I will let them FR with my others. My original girls have become much louder. Amber did a major egg announcement this morning followed by some strutting. She is definitely letting the new girls know who is the boss. She has never made a sound before so it was quite lovely to see. I hope they soon become friends. Even Chicken Bark who is at the bottom of the order has started to act 'big' in front of the new girls so maybe she is hoping she will come up in the ranks. I think the lovely Speckledy will be at the bottom. Bless.

chicken bark
Hello Chicken bark,Can I ask please, how old is your Light Sussex ? Jenny. I was told she was 20 weeks. I'm fairly certain she is already in lay although it is too early for me to have had one from her yet. The eglu had a few 'nervous' poo's in it today so with the move, the heat and getting used to more hens I'll not be expected any eggs for a bit.
