Lesley
Those that are lazy, very often can but it's easier to get someone else to do it! (and Kate can do it better than me anyway)

SarahJo
Braw photo Louise , only question I have was what everyone was laughing about .. not a pre-wedding joke from Anne , sorry, I mean HRH Princess Royal .. whatever. Did she have a G&T at lunch time .. go on spill .
Lesley
That's twice HRH has smiled now - she smiled in the coach after the wedding as well!
SarahJo
Don't you just hate it though .. when you see the shots of people, but CANNOT hear what is being said . Maybe I am just paranoid ... though I doubt any Royalty are having a joke at my expense . Annes not a bad Royal stick ... she used to be my neighbour in Wiltshire . motherhen
I've got a lot of respect for Anne - sensible and hard working. However I managed to miss everything about 'that' wedding. Extreme way to avoid it but I have just got back from 3 days youth hostelling and hiking with my Guides. We only had about 10 mins of horizontal snow on the friday walking from the train station to the hostel so that was ok. However on Saturday our planned 11 mile walk along Hadrien's Wall from Greenhead to Howsteads had to be cut short after just 6 miles. We had very strong winds and continuous driving rain. There was ice on the path from the night before and for those of you who don't know that bit of the wall, it is a challenging walk in the best of conditions. However weather much better for our final walk today. I was very pleased to get back to my girls who have coped courageously with my absence. OH and repelling offspring have just been lobbing in cabbage leaves and not hanging them up for pecking. Despite this obvious lack of attention to their needs both girls laid every day while I was away.
Lesley
Jane - don't start me off. We love Housesteads part of Hadrians Wall - and even the weather sounds great to us! Glad your chickens survived the neglect
Louise
We were laughing about taking showers yes really she was telling us about a member of her family falling off a horse and being really muddy and every one avoiding her she is so softly spoken it is difficult to hear it all unless she is looking directly at you As for lunch we all had a buffet lunch whilst she ate in the board room with the high heid yins (important people for those south of the border ) so I don't know what she had for lunch. The food we had was not great and I had indigestion the next day which happens when I eat food with additives so I hope she fared better Actually we were told not to ask about her dogs or the weddding the last time she was here a year ago it was only a couple of days after the dog incident She seems very pleasant and she made a point of talking to everyone and as she is primed on who we are and what we do she had a question for each of us how she remembers it all is amazing glad you liked the pic
SarahJo
Best to stay off the topic of her dogs . Thanks for enlightening us on the conversation ...
Louise
Tried to post this yesterday then something crashed So I went home!! Last Monday I had my chimney sweep in and the first thing he said when he came to the door was 'is that an eglu' He then asked if I would mind him taking a look before he left so after the chimney was swept we went out and had a good look I showed him how easy to dismantle and clean etc and he was well impressed. It seems he has been trying to pursuade his wife to keep some chooks but was struggling but having seen the eglu etc and taking some pics on his phone he thought it might convince her so we may have another North of the Border Eglu. He had obviously considered the eglu but actually seeing and trying the unit seemed to be the deciding factor so I was thinking maybe those of us that don't mind volunteering for 'site visits' by potential omleteers to help them decide if they live a long way from the head office might be a useful tool What do others think
Louise
I forgot to say he also went away with an unusual tip for a sweep 4 eggs in an omlet box so he would have the contact details
SarahJo
Ahhhh ... free eggs, good tip, and marketing ploy for Omlet .. you should get a prize if the Sweep gets one.
Louise
Part of me thinks great another eglu but then he will have access to here how can i ever look him in the face again one he knows how nuts I really am
SarahJo
... at least you only have the chimney swept once a year though. .
Sheilaz
Great advertising, Louise. Yes, I've done the same; once inviting complete strangers here, who had asked on the forum. Esther was horrified that I had arranged a meeting with strangers on the internet, after all my warnings to daughters! Then, local friends came round for full demonstration. Voluntary Eglu agents! But I felt just the same, imagine if a good friend joined this forum & discovered the full extent of my eccentricity. Meanwhile, we'll look out for new chickens located in Borders, called Sooty & Sweep, on the forum & welcome them!

Lesley
I think that's a good idea - Eric and Claudine came to see ours but I think they already had theirs or had ordered. I'm not sure whether we convinced Claudine or not
Louise
I think my sweep lives in Lanarkshire so we will have to keep our eyes peeled He does other things as well as sweep chimneys so it may not be so easy to spot them if they join But it will be fun watching
Jill
A good reminder for me to get my chimney swept. Thanks. Everyone that comes near my house gets dragged round to see the eglu - then they either think I am barking mad or are really keen and want to know all about it. I have also noticed that even the ones who think I am mad want to know if I have any spare eggs! Bit cheeky really. How many eggs do they think two chickens can produce!!! Loads of friends heard the Radio 4 programme and rang to ask if I was using the housing mentioned. Eglu's fame is spreading far and wide. Louise
Hi Jill, I never forget to get the chimney swept as it is a big fireplace and an unlined chimney with no chimneypot it blew down and I haven't got round to replacing it so soot blows down it so I always want it done at the end of the season to try to keep the carpet (sort of) clean. My sweep tells me to make a paste using lux flakes to get the soot out of my cream carpet (predecessors choice not mine imagine open fire with a cream carpet insane )but I can't buy lux flakes anywhere - unless any of you know different

I'll keep watch for you Louise. I'm not called Sherlock for nothing! I usually wait until late summer/autumn as our chimney is narrower & has had a bird nest before. If I remember. I'd never manage cream carpet, but I think it looks lovely in a friend's house. We went for camouflage (Ribena, wee, coffee, plus anything the children might spill) Persian style pattern, 20 years ago. Bit threadbare on stairs now but never shows dirt! Must be 10 years since I bought Lux flakes, will let you know if I see them anywhere (helpful at 300 miles away!) Perhaps Kate will be along with a handy tip!
