Miss Moneypenny
Hi, Yestaday one of my docile hens got pecked by a more dominant hen in the face and she walked backwards for a moment but seemed ok. Today the area around her eye has puffed up and she just wants to sleep, shows no interest in food but I managed to give her a little garlic, and have put some poultry drink in the water. The others are not bothering her... Is there anything else I can do? Should I take her out if she doesn't improve later? Thanks Worried mother hen! staceychristie
I would seperate her from the others. otherwise while your back is turned another attack may follow. I'd bathe the eye with a warm salt water mix (avoiding her eye, obviously). She's probably in a bit of shock, so pop her in a box in a warmish quiet area (downstairs loo etc) so she has her own access to food and water. Miss Moneypenny
thanks I'll try that as soon as I get in from work!
Christian
I agree, if the eye is bothering her, then separate her from the others and bathe in salt water or cold tea. Any signs of infection, weeping etc, then a trip to the vet might be in order.
AnnieP
Keeping her in slightly subdued light might also ease her eye a bit if it is particularly bright and sunny where you are.
