johncc Posted May 27, 2010 Share Posted May 27, 2010 Hi folks- Recently a couple of stray hens have been spotted near us, a long way from any houses. They've been roaming free for some time. The other day we saw that one had been run over. Then a neighbour caught the remaining hen and gave her to us as we already have 3 chickens. . Firstly, can anyone identify what type she is? She's a bantam of some kind. Secondly, are there any tips to helping the 2 light Sussex and the Appenzella accept her? How much pecking is OK? They left her pretty bloody and miserable when we tried to introduce her, so they've been separate since. Perhaps we'll have to look for a new run and get another chook to keep her company! A pekin cross by the looks of it Keep it in isolation for a week or so in case it has anything nasty Then add one of your existing ones to it and reintroduce them carefully to the other two as a pair thats if you can live with a cockerel mind! Just shows I should trust my instincts! Not sure I want a cockerel though - might have to see about finding him a good home somewhere else.
