johncc
Hi folks- Recently a couple of stray hens have been spotted near us, a long way from any houses. They've been roaming free for some time. The other day we saw that one had been run over. Then a neighbour caught the remaining hen and gave her to us as we already have 3 chickens. . Firstly, can anyone identify what type she is? She's a bantam of some kind. Secondly, are there any tips to helping the 2 light Sussex and the Appenzella accept her? How much pecking is OK? They left her pretty bloody and miserable when we tried to introduce her, so they've been separate since. Perhaps we'll have to look for a new run and get another chook to keep her company! In the meantime though, it would be good if everyone could just get on. Thanks in advance, John
Redwing
That looks like a cockerel. A pekin cross by the looks of it Keep it in isolation for a week or so in case it has anything nasty Then add one of your existing ones to it and reintroduce them carefully to the other two as a pair thats if you can live with a cockerel mind! johncc
That looks like a cockerel. Yikes! Do you know, I did wonder, and even said as much to my wife but she said "Nah..." Just shows I should trust my instincts! Not sure I want a cockerel though - might have to see about finding him a good home somewhere else. Daffodill
He looks a beautiful boy-wonder if he was abandoned because he was male, we saw a cockrel left in a roadside layby to fend for itself the other week (couldn't catch him and he was gone the next day when we went back) -good luck with him, he has had a rough time hope you manage to find him a good home
docsquid
No expert, but definitely a cockerel. What a lovely, handsome boy though!
