Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

My girls are a fairly quiet bunch except when plagued by police helicopters. This am they were free rangeing when I hard such a racket - i shot out of kitchen convicned a fox was in the garden or the resident magpie was dive bombing my girls to find Bathsheba in the big pampas grass (henquarters) I assumed she was stuck but she continued to shout and bob up and down and when I looked I found 3 eggs! 1 was warm the others cold. I know they can lay round the garden but never thought they would - I have had a few 1 egg days this week. They are fresh I did bowl test. Little madam - I suspect they are hers. She was obvously cross mum hadnt found them and was telling me. I now wonder if there are more somewhere else. I will be more vigilant on 1 egg days

Jemima made a nest behind the pond, but no eggs there yet

That has given me something to think about. I'm assuming that Chicken bark hasn't started laying yet (despite being 30+ weeks) so maybe she has and there is a secret stash somewhere.

 

A bank holiday egg hunt is on the cards this afternoon.

I had three 'one egg' days in a row, so did a bit of egg-vestigating. And found six eggs up on the wall hidden in the ivy!!! That was a month ago. And now my chickens lay half their eggs on the wall and half in the nesting box. I love the egg-hunting and it's fun having two places to look now!
