chickinboy
Hi all, Okay, so I've searched through all the posts, and I'm still none the wiser! I've had a feather pulling problem for ages, and my main culprit has been seperate for two months. Only one of them has regrown her feathers on her legs but nowhere else, and the others are still thread-bare, including the one that's seperate. I've now seen 'voluntary' feather pulling, where they stand around and let someone else eat away. So....having used ivermectin spot on and anti-mite spray, and having no visible crawlies, I suppose I'm left with the possibility of depluming mite??? I've researched some pictures, and it does look right. feathers at the base of the tail are dull, and thin looking, and in various other places, backs, necks, bums etc they're missing completley. Some places they've got the stringy bit but no feathery bit if that makes sense! I read all the stuff about flowers of sulphur. I've ordered some, but I've got one poor girl who I know won't cope with the bath, or having cream put on her. Sounds like I'm being a wuss, but she's so timid, she's near impossible to catch, and I've messed around with her so much recently that I think I'm just causing stress. I can handle her when she's sleepy, but presumably I can't dunk her at night. So....long story short - is there anything less stressful to treat depluming mite??? Eggasperated
Sounds like mine but since I've rehomed Pippa (my main feather plucking culprit) who I also had separate for 8 weeks, their feathers have gradually started to improve. I had also wondered about depluming mite but now I'm thinking that the stress of Pippa being around, and her tendency to call the others over to her isolation pen so she could snatch a few feathers through the wire , was the problem. I thought depluming mite was relatively unusual so at the moment I'm just waiting to see how much their feathers improve and with all that they've been through I really don't fancy the idea of subjecting them to a bath. Sorry not much help for you, just my thoughts on my girls.
