Millie-Annie
She is the last one of my original ex-batts and we have had her almost two years. I think she has peritonitis as she is really hot and swollen underneath and has a permanently mucky back end. I bath her in warm water with Citridal (sp) added. Up until today she has still been perky and eating, but today she is just standing a looking thoroughly miserable. She also seems to have lost the ability to see, although she isn't blind. She has just tried to eat a tomato, but is pecking mid air and missing it completely. Unfortunately as it is the weekend she will have to be left until Monday, but if she is no better then I shall sadly have to make the decision to have her PTS. To be honest I hope she goes peacefully here as Annie did a couple of months ago.

cathybc
sorry to hear about Milicent - is there an emergency vet available ?
Millie-Annie
Sadly I knew Millie was past the vet stage. I went to check they had gone to bed and Marigold flew down the ramp shouting, so I knew something was wrong. I opened the coop and Millicent was laid on her side,so I thought she had gone. Went indoors to find a towel to wrap her in and as I lifted her she started trying to move. So I just stroked her and told her she had been a lovely girl and she lay back down. Rather then stress her I have left her in her bed with Marigold and know I will have a horrible job in the morning. She was a great girl and I will miss her Run Free Millie Chicken xx

Millie-Annie
Millie chicken is gone I have put her in a pillow slip and in a nice pretty bag for life. Not sure what to do with her now though? I will miss my Millie, drinking my tea, sitting under my chair in the garden, knocking the back door for me. I am glad we got her Marigold to keep her company though, they became good buddies over the last month.
Ain't Nobody Here
How sad - poor Millie . You can put her in the bin for collection (sorry, it sounds a bit callous ) or bury her (but make sure it's deep and covered with slabs to stop the fox getting her ). ISCA
Sorry to hear that You gave her a good couple of years though. One of mine was PTS yesterday too. I hate it when pets die, even if if it is "just a chicken" as others keep reminding me. I wish I wasn't such a softie
Millie-Annie
Me too. I have 3 new ex-batts and I am determined to be harder with them. Seems to work for others as I have said before.

sewitall
These chickens really do get to you don't they. You painted a lovely picture of her. I hope your sadness is not too prolonged.
Millie-Annie
Thank you xx She was a character, especially after her friend Annie died and she was alone. That was when she decided I could be her friend. It got a bit difficult after a while, especially when she used to sulk if I couldn't be with her constantly, so that was why we got Marigold. If I can work out how to post photos I will post a photo of her
