dixie chick
Hi Everyone - I am almost ready for the arrival of my chooks but I have noticed that I do have quite a few tiny red spider critters in the garden - on the brick walls mainly...... Are these the same species that will feed on chicken blood or are these a plant infesting variety?
Ain't Nobody Here
I've never had red mite (*touches wood* ) but I think I'm right in saying they're so tiny you wouldn't be able to see their legs which presumably you can see on these ones you've got. Have you read this? It might alleviate your fears . When are you getting your girls ?
Christian
Red mite and red spider mite are two different species. Red spider mite you will see outside and pose no problems for your hens, but they can be a nightmare for nightmare for gardeners! Good luck with your new hens
dixie chick
Thank you so much for that reassurance! I do have quite an infestation of the red spider mite critters in the garden so am really relieved that they wont leap onto the chooks as soon as they arrive! lillybettybabs
My garden is infested with the little Blighters, They have stripped some of my plants. Does anyone know of a organic way of controling them?
Jools
Chickens? Oh no, that won't work. They'll eat the plants too.
