Unsecure chicken perches

We were freeranging our 4 new arrivals after a week of being cooped up in the cube. 1st off while i was bending over feeding one of the girls out of my hand another came up behind me, jumped on my back and then made a leep to clear the 4ft Omlet netting we have round the area they are allowed. But, she didnt make it.

 

5 mins later. The same girl decideds to flap like mad and jump and made it over the fence. Luckily my wife was standing in the right place at the right time and managed to grab her and made her land back inside the run.

 

Close call. But it has got me wondering. We have clipped their wings (on one side), so with that in mind how high can chickens fly n jump.....

Our Light Sussex hopped over our 4 foot fence without batting an eyelid, so we clipped her wing and she hasn't tried since.

My gingernut clears the omlet netting easily and very frequently So I clipped a wing and she still did it.

 

Little madam is back in her old area now so will hopefully stay grounded. So hybrid 4ft.

We clipped all our girls wings on the very day we had them (thats how I got my injury from slasher).

 

We let them out again today and she didnt even want to go for it today, so hopefully she has learnt her lesson. Dont mess with the wife....... Either that or she see my BBQ in the courner.
