How much water do they need?

Recommended Posts

Hello

Sorry about this silly question, but there is two Bantam ducks for sale near by to me. I was wondering how much water they need. like how deep and wide? i have no pond but was planning to get like a paddling pool for them. I only own Chickens. Do you feed your ducks Layers Pellets? Ill have to get another 'bin' to put duck feed in.. I love ducks. But never really got round to getting any. I think there 'hybrid' ducks. There just put down as 'Pair of Bantam Ducks' Helppp :D

Hi mollie333 ducks are fine with a plastic childs paddling pool and can eat the same layer pellets as chickens my chickens and ducks all run together in the day but go to bed in seperate houses at night they are very messy and can be stinky and you can kiss good bye to your lawn their water bowls and pool will need changing daily hope this helps a bit leanne :)

Hi Mollie - fully grown ducks will be fine on layers pellets or mash. They need enough water, so that they can cover their heads. A paddling pool will work, though a lot of peeps on here use the 75ltr mixing troughs. They're about 15 quid from Homebase and a little more robust.

A couple of things though:

- if they are anything like ours they will dirty the water as soon as you let them at it, so you will need to be able to change the water and wash the pond regularly.

- they will need something to let them get safely in and out of the pond.

Best of luck ;)

Hi, new to the site :D

We have two adult runners. We got a paddling pool for them but after a while it suddenly got a huge crack in it so we had to get rid of it. We replaced it with this kids sandpit/paddling pool set from Argos:

It's really easy to clean and empty, stays useably clean for around 5ish days (although ours don't have constant access to it at the moment so it'd get messier quicker if they did. We have the pools on the patio, therefore helping them stay cleaner for much longer and making sure our lawn stays looking relatively nice :P) and allows the ducks to splash and wash perfectly happily, plus the added bonus is that there are two parts so you get two for the price of one really :D

We feed them normal poultry layers pellets :)

Hope that helps :)

They're fine on layers Molly - need the same amount of room as LF hen, maybe more. They are really messy and can be louder than chickens.

We use 2 big tub trugs as ponds, and they also have the fish pond:)

I'd find out what breed they are and why they're being sold too - could be 'cos they're too noisy.

PS. Welcome to the forum Adam :D
